DON’T FORGET!!! GO OUTSIDE TONIGHT!!!
SEE THE MOON PASSING THE BRIGHT “STAR” JUPITER!!!
The planet Jupiter is the very bright “star” near the waxing gibbous Moon tonight, Monday, March 2. After nightfall tonight, be sure to go outside and take a look!
The precise time of closest approach is 8:00 UT March 3, which is midnight PST. This event will favor the west coast, Hawaii and Alaska, and the Pacific.
The Moon passes Jupiter every other month of the year. For some strange reason, this commonplace event is not widely known or understood, even though it is before our eyes at all times.
One of the purposes of Classical Astronomy is to help people observe and understand these interesting sky events that are hiding in plain sight!
